All set to make the big move, are we? Here’s how to make your moving day a little easier to go through.

Before anything else, call up the movers and confirm the pickup date. Do this even if you had hired their packing service.

Although you need to be very vigilant during packing to make sure you don’t make any mistakes, it’s always a good idea to recheck. So, a day or two before pickup check and make sure that all boxes are properly sealed, and marked with a permanent marker according to their contents. If possible, try to have proper inventory lists on all boxes. If you want to keep that info private, keep a list with yourself and just label the boxes. During packing, point out to the packers (if there) the fragile items, or items that need extra attention, and these boxes should have big “FRAGILE” labels on them. Also, your essentials box should read “PACK LAST, UNPACK FIRST”, incase you’re not taking that with yourself. This will save you trouble later.

Get all these boxes out onto the porch if possible. It’ll make it easier for them to pick ‘em up. Check all documents related with the move and the movers, and be there for supervision while they’re loading up the stuff. Tick off the boxes one by one on the inventory as they’re loaded, and do the same during unloading. You’ll be given an inventory list by them as well. Make sure it is legible, and correct before you sign it.

That taken care of, you’re job is done. Just get yourself packed up, and its time to move out!
