One of the most daunting tasks associated with shifting to a new place is getting your kids ready for the move. Generally, children are mentally and emotionally attached to the place where they live, and it is quite difficult for them to digest the idea that they’ll have to leave it.

Here are a few tips that will help you to get your young children to accept the move cheerfully:

  • 1. Farewell Party
Arrange a small party for your kids and invite all their best friends. Create a ‘feel good’ atmosphere and make them feel special with the help of the people they love the most. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to buy a few presents too!
  • 2. Photo Shoot!
Take your kids to visit their favourite places in the neighbourhood. Take them to meet some of their favourite people, and share a few light moments. Click some pictures and help them compile an album filled with colourful memories. That’ll surely make them feel much better about all of it!
  • 3. Pep Talks
It is really important to psychologically boost up your kids to get them ready for the move. Sit down with them and talk to them about it. Explain to them why the move is necessary, and how it will benefit them. Make sure that you remain open and tolerant, and answer all their queries and doubts carefully. Be frank. Take care to ensure that they end up feeling positive about it!
  • 4. Preview!
It would be a good idea to take your kids to visit the new neighbourhood, if possible. Show them how the move would be fun for them, and how nice your new home would be. Show them the best sights around. It’ll really help your cause if you can find an outlet of their favourite brand nearby!
  • 5. Create some magic!
Make life beautiful and exciting for them by decorating their rooms with posters and toys of their favourite people and characters. Ensure that your new place comes across as pleasant, and they feel welcome!

You know your kids best! Make sure that they don’t lose their colour and gaiety because of the move, but stay cheerful and happy! All the best!
